Battle of Britain Spitfire and Hurricane fly over Reading on special
The prince told reporters he was “unbelievably fortunate and lucky” to spend his birthday at the flypast event, The Mirror reported.
After spending three months in Africa, Prince Harry made his much-anticipated return to royal duties – and the handsome royal didn’t disappoint.
While Harry focused on the veterans on his birthday, the prince will reportedly be the guest of honor at a boat party on the Thames later this week organized by his friends to welcome him back.
The event has been organised by the Boultbee Flight Academy, based in Chichester, and two of the aircraft – a Spitfire and a Hurricane – fought in the famous battle.
Tangmere is set to hold a Battle of Britain memorial service.
A total of 33 Spitfires, Hurricanes and Bristol Blenheim bombers flew from Goodwood Aerodrome to mark the conflict’s 75th anniversary.
The flypast, originally planned for noon, had to be delayed by two hours because of high winds and wet weather making take off and landing risky .
Battle of Britain live stream: Numerous politicians including the new Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn will attend the flypast of 40 Spitfires and Hurricanes and a service of St Paul’s Cathedral.
The prince will join Battle of Britain veterans and wounded servicemen supported by his Endeavour Fund for the flypast to mark the anniversary of victory in the Battle of Britain.
The planes took off on Tuesday from the Goodwood airfield in West Sussex before spreading out over the southern English counties for a number of different displays.
About 544 personnel from Fighter Command died during the Battle of Britain in 1940 as Hitler’s Luftwaffe was repelled.
