Wreck Mars Late Daytona Finish
Channel 9 has confirmed that two victims who were injured in a crash at the Coke Zero 400 at the Daytona global Speedway will be represented by attorney Matt Morgan.
“By the fourth one, you know you’ve separated enough where your fourth one is going to hurt more than others”.
Today, with the restrictor plates causing stock cars to bunch together because it limits maximum speed, there is more of a logjam on the track.
On the final lap of Saturday’s race at Daytona global Speedway, Dillon’s vehicle went airborne, high into the fence. Twelve other people were assessed after the accident.
As for what’s next, track president Joie Chitwood, III points to the ongoing $400 million overhaul called Daytona Rising, which includes new safety measures. The only thing I was anxious about was that there was oil everywhere and I wanted to get away from the vehicle and that was why I was scrambling to get out from under it. And then just wanted to wave to the fans and let them know I was all good.
Asked what NASCAR will examine as far as video and Dillon’s vehicle, France said all that will be scrutinized.
NBC Sports reported three fans were treated with minor injuries from debris flying into the stands.
I get that racing is unsafe. Crews from three different teams ran to his aid when the vehicle came to a rest. That’s part of what makes drivers our heroes.
“Just great motors; the guys in the engine shops do such a good job, so got to thank all those guys”, Earnhardt said.
“NASCAR puts us in a box”.
Although he did not give a specific amount, Morgan said his clients are seeking damages that would cover any current and future medical expenses from injuries sustained in the crash.
“I am just going to be really sore, ” Dillon told NASCAR.com. “We can work at that, and then figure out a way to keep the cars on the ground”. Following his victory, Earnhardt said the crash was “terrifying to watch”.
“That’s the next thing. That’s auto racing and we’re on safety improvements all the time to make racing safer and better”. I hope fans enjoy all that.
I slightly disagree with Dillon. We went from an engineering standpoint, right to work, and we’ll do the same here. You are going to have cars running around at 200 miles per hour on a track as big as Daytona. Even with the best drivers in the world, you will have mistakes and mechanical failures. The welfare of the fans and motorsports in general is riding on it, and this can’t happen again.
I’m now convinced NASCAR needs a curfew. If there are areas we need to address, we will.Rain forced the start of the race to be delayed by 3 hours and 34 minutes (with an 11:42 p.m. start time Sunday). You can feel the weight of the day kind of on you, on your eyes, runner-up Jimmie Johnson said of the long delay.
