Former Pres. Carter says no “ill effects” from cancer treatment
Former US President Jimmy Carter yesterday called on Germany to take the lead in solving the European migrant crisis, a situation he compared to the flow of Vietnamese and Cambodian refugees to the United States during his presidency.
Carter, who was president from 1977 to 1981, said that so far, he had experienced no adverse effects caused by the treatment he was receiving to eradicate four small spots of cancer that doctors found in his brain in August. He had founded the organisation after he left his seat at the White House.
Former President Jimmy Carter at the Clement restaurant in New York, July 8, 2015. 12, 2015, Carter announced he has cancer and will undergo treatment at an Atlanta hospital.
“Instead of getting productive work done, I spend a lot of time in the restroom”, he joked.
Carter talked about his illness only briefly, saying that the most challenging part of his treatment has been the 64 ounces of liquid that doctors have directed him to drink each day, down from 84 ounces.
Only 11 cases of the disease are known internationally, prompting Carter to comment, “I hope I’m living longer than the last guinea worm”.
“He’s just always been an inspiration to me and it was truly an honor to be here”, one woman told CBS46 as she fought back tears. A student speaking for the silent caped figure thanked Carter for answering every Emory student’s question for 34 years.
Talking about the drug Keytruda which has been recently approved to help build the immune system and destroy cancer cells, Carter said that he has not yet faced any “ill effects” after completion of the second dosage of the drug treatment.
“He has enlightened us to what it is to be a member of this country”, said Mr. Plakos.
