Damon Albarn Carried Off Stage By Security After Five Hour Set
Albarn was performing with Africa Express, a musical collective of big-name artists and lesser-known musicians that he founded. He nevertheless managed to make some time to play this weekend’s Roskilde Festival in Demark – five hours of time, to be exact.
Presumably Albarn’s continued baiting of the festival staff happened because he didn’t believe it really, really, really could happen.
Of course, considering it was close to 4 a.m., maybe he was actually happy for the lift?
After the epic set, the 47-year-old, asked the crowd if they wanted him to carry on, despite it being 4am. After skirting The Man all around the stage, Albarn is physically picked up and taken offstage (video of that below, too).
Footage has emerged of Albarn protesting against his tour manager, who tells him to leave the stage. The crowd booed, of course, while he smiled and waved. “You want more, we’re going to give you more”, before asking the crowd to start cheering so he could continue to perform.
Africa Express is an organization that brings together musicians from multiple cultures, continents, and genres. Also, this show featured a special appearance from Graham Coxon, a founding member of Blur, and Laura Mvula, a British soul singer-songwriter.
