Based David Feherty headed to NBC this week
He didn’t renew his contract after CBS’ final golf broadcast at The Barclays three weeks ago. Somewhat vaguely, Golf Channel said Feherty will also be “featured” during coverage of the Ryder Cup, Olympics and some PGA of America and European Tour events.
FEHERTY: Golf Channel has extended his award-winning self-titled talk show, Feherty, which helped propel him to a 2014 Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Sports Host.
It worked out for him, and he gained more notoriety with “Feherty”, in which he has interviewed golf and sports celebrities, including Donald Trump in 2012.
That confirms what AA’s Ken Fang speculated last week, as NBC already has Johnny Miller in its tower position and would like David Duval to eventually take over that role.
Fox Sports was expected to make a big push for Feherty.
A television source said CBS tried to keep the popular Feherty, but the two sides could not agree on money and job description.
Feherty, who lives with his second wife Anita and their five children in Dallas, Texas, has made no public comment about his shock departure from CBS or his future plans, and refused to discuss his situation when approached by reporters at a recent charity event. But CBS, NBC and Feherty had not commented.
But if Neil Patrick Harris’ Best Time Ever variety show (which debuts Tuesday night on NBC) doesn’t work out, perhaps that creates an opening for Feherty on the network. “It’s a thrill, just the thought of it, and a new step in my career, and I can’t wait to get started”. “His addition to the Golf Channel and NBC team will further enhance our coverage of this game we love, and also help David rise to new levels professionally with the exclusive opportunity to call golf at the Olympics, Ryder Cup and The Open Championship”.
FEHERTY “OFF TOUR” Stage Show: Golf Channel to collaborate with Feherty on his one-man stage show.
