Geelani decides to participate in OIC meet in New York
“He will aware the world leaders about the serious and grave situation of Kashmir and impress upon them to bat for the resolution of the long pending Kashmir dispute according to its historical perspective”, said the spokesman.
“It remains to be seen how Geelani is being allowed to participate in a meeting to be attended by the Foreign Ministers of the Islamic countries when he doesn’t hold any official portfolio”, NPP leader Harshdev Singh told ANI.
The Ministry of External Affairs recently released travel documents to the separatist leader after he applied for a passport.
OIC had invited Geelani in the past too for this meeting, but could not attend for not having the passport.
The Mirwaiz said he would write a detailed letter to the OIC about the current political, social and religious scenario in the state if he was not allowed to participate in the meeting. In the past, U.S. has declined visa to Geelani even when he was planning to go there for treatment.
Besides Geelani, chairperson Dukhtaran-e- Millat Asiya Andrabi has also been invited by the OIC’s Director General of Cabinet, Abdul Aziz Al- Sabeel to represent Kashmir in the coming foreign ministers meeting in New York.
The Hurriyat chairman has many times in the last 25 years got invitation from the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), but due to non-availability of travel documents could not participate.
