Patrick Kane Will Be At The Blackhawks Training Camp Friday
Training camp begins September 18 on the Notre Dame campus in South Bend, Indiana.
Chicago winter sports icon Patrick Kane is now under investigation for sexual assault. In spite of this very serious situation, he will still be at Chicago Blackhawks training camp.
The clock is ticking and the league, the team and Kane’s representatives, perhaps with input from the NHLPA, have to weigh if Kane being in camp is the best idea. “Five weeks? I just can’t wait for him to get back to his life”, he said.
Kane was included on the Blackhawks’ training camp roster that was released Wednesday. According to Dreger (via ProHockeyTalk), a decision on Kane’s status should be known in the next 24 to 48 hours.
In his column, Rosenbloom asks fans, “Why aren’t you mad at Kane?” In this case we have only a couple news outlets which purport that Kane allegedly raped a woman.
What it looks like is that he paid or will pay a presumably large chunk of change to settle any potential civil lawsuit and not cooperate too much with any criminal charges. Kane’s accuser and himself were both scheduled to appear before the grand jury.
So, now we’re led to believe the two sides are indeed working on a settlement, and that the grand jury hearing could still go on. Of course, most were prompted by the dismantling of a Cup-winning team – necessitated by the eight-year, $84-million deals signed by Kane and Jonathan Toews last summer. But none-the-less, there is no reason that Blackhawks fans should be quick to pass blame on Patrick Kane.
The Blackhawks are even more protective of their image.
