Ejections, fire alarm, but No. 24 Wisconsin beats Troy 28-3
Wisconsin head coach Paul Chryst, right, argues a call during the first half of an NCAA college football game against Troy Saturday, September 19, 2015, in Madison, Wis.
When wide receiver Alex Erickson lined up at the Wisconsin 45-yard line with the clock ticking down on the first half, his team mired in a stretch of 29 minutes of frustrating, borderline uninspiring play. Rudolph generally made a change at tackle after each series. Burks tops Troy rushing.
Dare Ogunbowale and Taiwan Deal were men possessed on the Badgers second drive, combining for seven yards per carry en route to the end zone. “I think we were comfortable with him being in the middle. I’m just happy to play football”.
After the game, a reporter asked Chryst if Stave’s efficiency through three games has been as good as he could have hoped.
“And it was good to get Jacob some snaps. You’ve got to respect that”.
Maxwell, a graduate of Greendale High School, sounded relieved after getting his first extended action of the season. “Build a bond, a little bit of chemistry”.
There were more on Saturday.
If the Trojans can succeed in the pass game, they will put up a solid fight. The Trojans’ long run was 11 yards. Wisconsin linebacker Joe Schobert said football requires split-second decisions and he didn’t necessarily agree with the ejections.
“To be able to limit those big plays means you’re taking a step in the right direction”. The senior threw for 202 yards with a touchdown.
He lined up in shotgun twice and had runs of 9 and 32 yards, the second a touchdown to help UW take a 21-3 lead.
“I thought that was big”, Stave said. And there’s no doubt that every coach that I know wants to – and this is for all rules, to make this game safer, no question.
It was a huge call as Troy had initially lined up to go for it on fourth down.
– Freshman Alec Ingold has been moved from inside linebacker to running back.
Ingold, 6 feet 2 inches and 237 pounds, was a dual-threat quarterback at Bay Port and as a senior was named the state player of the year by The Associated Press. But he has produced 139 yards, completing 8 of 12 attempts. Redshirt freshman Jacob Maxwell saw action at right tackle alongside starter Hayden Biegel.
Linebacker Chris Orr was one of several players who stepped up to lead the Badgers’ defense, which held its opponent to zero touchdowns for the second straight game.
However, during the delay it was determined there was no fire and play resumed.
– Play was stopped midway through the fourth quarter due to a fire alarm going off inside the stadium. The under is also 5-0-1 in the Badgers’ last six games after scoring more than 40 points in their previous game. He recorded two tackles…
