3 people hurt in Alabama church shooting; suspect arrested
The pastor at Oasis Church in East Selma was shot along with a woman and a baby, with all three surviving but with injuries.
A man opened fire during a church service in Alabama on Sunday, wounding his girlfriend, her baby and a pastor before being arrested on attempted murder charges, a prosecutor said. As such, authorities have ruled out any notion of this being racially motivated, and are focusing entirely on the alleged domestic issue betwen Minter and the woman. The victims are in stable condition.
Official says 3 people injured, 1 suspect in custody, after church shooting in Alabama.
According to Dallas County District Attorney Michael Jackson, they have identified the gunman as an individual named James Minter.
Minter is being held with no bond.
The pastor wounded in the incident was white, while both Minter and the two other victims were black, reported CBS News. “He took a seat on the bench on the front row with his family, and then he just got into it, pulled a weapon and started shooting”, Lt. Curtis Muhannad of the Selma Police Department told the Selma Times Journal.
Minter was captured by police less than a mile from the church, Muhannad said. He could face up to life in prison if convicted for the shooting.
