Man Accused of Opening Fire During Alabama Church Service
Jackson says the pastor is white, while Minter and the two other victims are black.
It is suspected that Minter was in distress over his recent breakup from his girlfriend and issues regarding visitation rights due to ongoing domestic violence between the couple.
Three individuals, including a woman, pastor and a young child, were shot this morning at a church in Selma, Ala.
This comes 3 months after the tragic Charleston church shooting, with law enforcement having arrested Dylann Storm Roof in Shelby, N.C., in connection with the tragedy. The pastor ran over and tried to get the gun from him.
Dallas County District Attorney Michael Jackson told the AP the shooting was not racially motivated.
None of those shot suffered life-threatening injuries but were treated at hospitals in Selma and Birmingham.
The girlfriend was shot in the shoulder and the jaw, police say.
A suspect is in custody after investigators say he shot a woman, her infant, and a pastor at an Alabama church, according to the Associated Press.
The victims were taken to hospital but their condition is unknown.
Neither Minter’s age nor hometown was immediately available.
Authorities said at about 10:30 a.m., Minter walked into the church and sat in between his girlfriend and their baby. “A lot of people are stressed”. “We’ve seen this happen so many times in our country”.
Congregants took matters into their own hands and rushed toward Minter as quickly as he began to fire the gun, said Muhannad.
Jackson revealed that Minter is now being held at the Dallas County Jail without bond.
