Tanaka will miss next start with hamstring strain
New York Yankees right-hander Masahiro Tanaka will miss his next scheduled start due to a Grade I strain of his hamstring, according to Sweeny Murti of WFAN.
If Tanaka is truly to miss just one start, then this does not signal the end of the season for the Yankees. Tanaka, of course, rarely hits because the Yankees are in the American League.
“I am talking about how he feels more than anything else, ” said Girardi, who has Adam Warren, Luis Severino and Tanaka lined up to face the Blue Jays at Rogers Centre.
Tanaka threw on the field Sunday after talking to reporters.
Through 14 starts, Nova accumulated a 6-8 record with a 5.11 ERA in 75-and-two-thirds innings. With the team trying to catch the Toronto Blue Jays in the AL East, the Yankees announced earlier this week that Nova would pitch out of the bullpen for the rest of the year. Tanaka said he felt the discomfort pushing out of the batter’s box, though he continued to pitch through the tightness through the sixth inning of a 5-1 Mets win.
Speaking before Sunday night’s Subway Series finale, Tanaka acknowledged his desire to take Wednesday’s turn. He did have a stellar outing against the Jays in August – his first appearance against them – but Toronto has him thoroughly scouted after facing him three times in the last two months. Over his last seven starts, Nova has posted a 7.46 ERA. It’s an important game for us, like always.
