Indians 6, White Sox 3 | Tribe hangs around in postseason chase
Lonnie Chisenhall hit a home run, a double and drove in three runs to help the Indians top the White Sox 6-3 on Sunday at Progressive Field.
The defeat dropped the Indians (73-74) four games behind Houston in the race for the second AL wild card. The Indians have alternated wins and losses their past eight games.
Tomlin (6-2) allowed four hits and matched a season high with eight strikeouts.
Second baseman Jason Kipnis walked, and Lindor hit a sacrifice fly, scoring Chisenhall to extend the lead to 5-0. Rodon defeated Cleveland 7-4 with a run allowed on five hits over seven frames. Eaton singled to right. M.Johnson infield single to left, Brantly scored, Av.Garcia to third. That left them with one bullet to knock in a run, and they couldn’t convert.
Yan Gomes singled with one out in the second and Chisenhall hit a 1-0 pitch to right, his first homer off a left-hander in 52 at-bats this season.
McAllister ran into trouble in the seventh inning, when the White Sox scored two runs to narrow the Indians’ lead. “Especially because it ended the game and I got to get out of that struggle I was in”. White Sox 1B Jose Abreu is on pace for 32 home runs and 103 RBIs.
With 15 games to go, rookie right-hander Frankie Montas is expected to make his first career start before the season ends. And, in a sense, settling down after a rough start is exactly what Danks has accomplished this season, posting a 3.72 ERA in 75 second-half innings after putting up a 5.30 ERA before the All-Star Break.
NOTES: After making his first 63 major league appearances as a starter, Indians RHP Trevor Bauer made his first relief appearance Saturday night, pitching a scoreless ninth inning. After Ryan Raburn would walk to load the bases, Carlos Santana unloaded them and unloaded on the Sale fast ball and deposited the baseball in the left center field bleachers for the grand slam.
Mike Aviles got the Indians on the board with an rbi single to center that went off the tip of Sanchez’s glove, it was 1-0 tribe.
The Indians would get to the White Sox bullpen for five more runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to make the final 12-1 Indians.
