Uber Driver Threatens to Slit Woman’s Throat Over Canceled Ride
It’s annoying when someone cancels on you at the last minute.
An Uber taxi driver who threatened to slit a customer’s throat for canceling her journey has been “immediately suspended”, the taxi firm has said.
In the voicemail, the driver can be heard shouting, “Don’t do again”, repeatedly.
“Oh my god… I just listened to a voicemail from an Uber driver from when I had to cancel”.
Anna Kealey Ms Kealey, a lecturer in design history at the University of the Arts London, only found the message on her phone after catching up with her voicemails today. “Otherwise I’ll cut your neck”. “Even though it’s not a direct threat, it felt so creepy, and I realized this person had been driving around for the past 10 days”.
Kealey is still struggling to understand what drove the Uber driver to leave her such an aggressive voice mail considering he received a cancellation fee.
As the user tells BuzzFeed, she had originally booked a car to take her to meet friends for Sunday brunch.
Kealey only discovered the voicemail on Wednesday after checking her messages during her lunchbreak.
Uber have since contacted the lecturer and the police are looking into the incident.
She told the Evening Standard she cancelled the cab a couple of minutes after booking it because she suffers anxiety and decided she would rather walk in the fresh air.
“The idea that he’s out on London’s stressful roads with that sort of anger makes it all the more nerveracking”.
A shocked Kealey said she found the language he used “inappropriate, threatening and disgusting“.
“My first thought was, ‘Who has he picked up and has anything happened?'”.
The matter has been reported to the police.
An Über spokesman issued the following statement: “We have spoken to the rider to ensure they are OK and encouraged them to report this to the police”.
“The driver has been immediately suspended, as is our policy, and we are investigating fully”.
