Tony Romo breaks collarbone in Cowboys victory
Jones called it quite a price to play in the Cowboys 20-10 victory over the Eagles that upped their record to 2-and-0 on the year.
Dallas shut down DeMarco Murray to register their 10th win on a row. Romo suffered the same injury, but to his right clavicle, in week seven of the 2010 season, and injury which saw him miss the remainder of the campaign. Dallas doesn’t expect to have Romo back for at least two months after the quarterback broke his left collarbone. Murray plays for Philadelphia, though he probably wishes he never left Dallas.
“I felt it, and it had a bit of a “pop” to it, ” he said. Individually, collectively, we’ve got to make it work. Now that you’ve had your good night of sleep, it’s time to heat up that morning pot of coffee, splash some water on your face to wake yourself up and of course, don’t forget your morning serving of Bacon, Eggs and Eagles!
Kyle Wilber returned a blocked punt 26 yards for touchdown, Brandon Weeden threw a 42-yard touchdown pass to Terrance Williams and the Cowboys (2-0) overcame a franchise-record 18 penalties in their 10th consecutive road win.
“Whenever you have a coaching staff that doesn’t panic, the players see it’s not as bad as things seem”, Williams said. Although Demarco Murray recorded two TD’s in week one, he was held to 9 yards on 8 carries, not exactly an ideal debut. Sam Bradford had three turnovers, including an interception in the end zone. “I just don’t think they use them all right”.
“We were calling a play trying to get some man coverage, and they zoned it off”, Bradford said. “It’s as simple as that”.
Romo was sacked and slammed onto the turf late in the third quarter against the Eagles. Fletcher Cox recovered Romo’s fumble, and Bradford drove the offense to the Cowboys 3 before Sean Lee intercepted his pass in the end zone.
The Cowboys were able to hang on and beat the Eagles on Sunday despite Romo’s injury, though that may have more to do with Philadelphia’s ineptitude than Dallas’ efforts after Romo went down.
The four-time Pro Bowler will undergo further testing Monday, including a Connecticut scan that will look at potential muscle damage. “It’s a broken bone – it is what it is”, Romo told Sky Sports 4 after the game. “It is what it is”. On the next play, Bradford fumbled it back to Dallas.
“We’re a veteran group, we’ve been here before”, cornerback Richard Sherman said. “We have to establish our rhythm”. Philadelphia (0-2) had 21 yards in the first half and finished with 226. That was for 9 yards late in the game with Dallas up by an insurmountable 17 points.
Jones, a third-round draft pick out of Florida, scored from 39 yards in the first quarter, and from 3 with about 2½ minutes left in the fourth.
NOWHERE TO RUN: The Eagles had 7 yards rushing on 17 carries.
“Couldn’t get anything started”, Kelly said. We just have to get out of our own way. Leonard Hankerson caught a 10-yard TD pass to bring Atlanta within three.
Brady’s throwing figures, in terms of distance gained, were the second best of his glittering career and his starring role proved crucial as the Bills fought back from 37-13 down with 19 fourth-quarter points before running out of time.
Peterson missed most of last season amid a scandal over his disciplining his 4-year-old son with a wooden switch.
NOTES: Eagles LB Kiko Alonso left in the second quarter with a left knee injury and did not return. The team said he left the game because of a hamstring injury. Allen Barbre and Andrew Gardner are journeymen and have looked the part, despite being named the starters at left and right guard, respectively. But with his top two offensive threats sidelined, Garrett and company have to hope they can keep their season alive while their best players heal up.
