Scores feared dead as multiple explosions rock Maiduguri
The Nigerian Military claims that boko haram bombed parts of Maiduguri on Sunday night because they were desperate.
“There were three improvised explosive devices detonated at the Gomari and Ajilari general area in Maiduguri at about 7.21pm”, Usman said, adding that additional details “remain unclear”.
Yahaya Garba, a resident of Ajilari-Cross in Maiduguri, said he heard the blast at about 7:20pm when Muslims were observing the last prayer of the day. “I saw many shattered bodies of human beings at the scene before I ran away for my dear life”. The third one exploded few minutes later in a mosque when people were praying.
As if to underscore the potency of the militants, at least five persons were killed today in a suicide bomb attack on the northern Cameroon town of Mora, military sources said, in what appeared to be the latest cross-border attack by Nigeria’s Boko Haram Islamist militant group.
“We counted four dead bodies (at the viewing centre) and many others sustained injuries”, he added.
Usman said the military would not be deterred in its determined efforts of defeating Boko Haram terrorists in the shortest possible time.
Ibrahim Abdulkadir, regional coordinator of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), on Monday said he could not give an exact death toll but told AFP: “The casualty is high”.
It should be noted that this is coming several hours after leader of the Boko Haram Sect, Shekarau made some comment on President Buhari.
The Borno State Police Command yesterday in Maiduguri confirmed the village attack, stating that the fleeing insurgents attacked one of the villages on the shores of Alau Dam.
