List of winners at Emmy Awards
Before this year, “Game of Thrones” had received many nominations but few wins outside of technical categories.
“Mad Men”, which ended its run in May, did score a victory thanks to a best dramatic actor win by Jon Hamm, while Viola Davis took the prize for best drama actress for ABC’s “How to Get Away with Murder”. He earned his first acting Emmy nomination for his role as Draper in 2008, the break-out year of “Mad Men“. “Let me tell you something: the only thing that separates women of color from anyone else is opportunity”. “You cannot win an Emmy for roles that are simply not there”. She previously won four times for “The West Wing” as well as winning past year for guest actress in a drama for “Masters of Sex“, bringing her total number of Emmys to a near-record seven.
In addition to winning best drama, “Game of Thrones” won for best writing in a drama, best directing and best supporting actor, for Peter Dinklage. “Thank you for your inspiration”, he said. Photo by Mike Blake, Reuters.
Jill Soloway, victor of the award for outstanding directing for a comedy series for “Transparent”, poses in the press room at the 67th Primetime Emmy Awards on Sunday, September 20, 2015, at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.
And in an award that couldn’t be more deserved, the series won for best comedic writing.
On the comedy side, political satire “Veep” claimed the top series award that had gone to “Modern Family” for five consecutive years. Veep star Julia Louis-Dreyfus had won Best Actress In A Comedy the last three years, and some thought it was time the series got honored, as well. Uzo Aduba bagged the outstanding supporting actress in a drama series honour for her work in “Orange Is the New Black“. It’s impossible to have done this show with this incredible cast, these incredible people, our incredible writers, our incredible crew. “There has been a bad mistake, clearly”, Hamm said.
Because Emmy rules moved the show from comedy categories to drama, she became the second person to win in both genres for the same character.
“Thank you to everybody who watched the show and thank you for this”. The show took a risk this past season in moving Julia Louis-Dreyfus’s Selina Meyer up a notch in job description, and it worked out beautifully as an artistic strategy.
Viola Davis won her Emmy for lead actress in a drama for her role as a tough criminal defence lawyer in ABC’s How to Get Away With Murder. He dedicated his award to the transgender community.
Ricky Gervais was nominated for Channel 4’s Derek as outstanding lead actor in a mini-series or movie, but also went home empty-handed.
“Audiences are still much larger for network-originated shows, but the shows on streaming services have the attention of the entertainment establishment”, said Jeffrey McCall, a media studies professor at DePauw University, before the 2015 Emmy Awards.
