Running back Corey Clement out for Wisconsin’s home opener
“If we do, then maybe the pressure is more on them because they’re not anticipating the game being very close at halftime”. But they had their way in the second half against Miami’s worn-down defense.
The Redhawks are 33-point underdogs heading into Saturday’s game which can be seen on ESPNU at noon.
Clement initially got hurt in practice leading up to Wisconsin’s 35-17 loss last week to Alabama.
For the first time in a while, it was the Wisconsin Badgers quarterback who exited early in the second half. With a three-game stretch against South Carolina, Florida and Missouri beginning this week, Kentucky better wake up fast.
“They pride themselves on smashing teams in the mouth”, Martin said. “We’re going to go in with guns a-blazing, firing from the hip, and make it as much fun as we can”.
The biggest revelation for the Redhawks in last week’s win was the improvement of their rushing attack from last season.
UA averaged 6.4 yards a carry for a total of 238 yards and that includes the negative sack yardage. Dare Ogunbowale ran for 112 yards and a touchdown. Jared Murphy received for 101 yards and redshirt freshman Chris Hudson looked good as well.
Caputo said while the symptoms don’t match those typical of a concussion, he won’t take any chances if he doesn’t feel ready to play. “Not that we’re stopping the run, but we were managing the run pretty good …” Many were shocked to see Kiffin have such success, but he was inheriting a loaded roster. “That’s just genetics”. The Crimson Tide put up 502 total offensive yards against the Badgers.
Really, that was the case on both sides of the ball. Last week Presbyterian averaged 4.7 yards per play against the Redhawks.
The game also is the first at home for new Wisconsin coach Paul Chryst, who played for the Badgers and also was an assistant coach.
Running back Taiwan Deal rushed for two TDs for the Badgers in their first meeting against Miami (Ohio). “They’re not afraid to grind you for four quarters. I’m sure that’s the plan”. Now that Chryst is back after spending three seasons in Pittsburgh, he is trying to keep the Wisconsin tradition of a pro-style offense in MadTown, but is being forced to do so with an offense not suited to play it. Over time, assuming Chryst stays in his hometown, he will start to recruit the players he wants, but for now, he is stuck playing his offense with a roster fit for Andersen’s style of play. The challenge is whether or not they will be able to execute against a big-time program with better talent in a raucous environment. They essentially brought back their entire secondary this season, so they have the talent, but whatever changes need to be made have to happen against Troy and Hawaii in the next two Saturdays.
Alabama leaped over Auburn to take the top spot in the second installment of our weekly SEC power rankings.
