Arizona Gov. Ducey to meet Pope at White House
Evangelist Franklin Graham has called President Obama’s guest list for Pope Francis’ welcome this week “disgraceful and obviously inappropriate”, even as the Vatican has reportedly objected to the White House’s invitation to transgender activists, an openly gay bishop and supporters of abortion and euthanasia.
Rush Limbaugh has also slammed Obama for inviting the group to meet the pope, pointing out that “Some people are saying that this is perfectly Obama”.
Either way, says deputy national security adviser Ben Rhodes, “the pope’s voice could not be more timely and important”. In this case it is same sex marriage and the mandate that private sector ventures clearly seperate from a church’s core function that a church operates should comply with the health care law. He said that if the pope stuck to standard Christian theology or spoke out with moral authority against violent Islam, “I would be there cheering him on”.
Brian Williams, a Lackawanna County courtroom administrator, received a ticket to attend the White House’s welcome ceremony for the pope at 9:15 a.m. Wednesday.
A row over the guest list for a party to welcome the Pope to the United States is threatening to overshadow his visit to Cuba. Obama and the pope will meet one-on-one in the Oval Office after the welcoming ceremony.
At the White House briefing, Mr Earnest pointed out that questions were not entertained at Republican Party rallies in the past. “Traffic’s going to be a mess”, he predicted.
Earnest took note that the government is encouraging federal workers in Washington to telecommute during the pope’s visit.
Ducey’s comments stand in stark contracts to U.S. Rep. Paul Gosar, who said he plans to boycott the pope’s congressional address because of the possibility the pontiff will discuss his support for policies to fight climate change. “He wants to mix and mingle with the people which is completely understandable and I think very honorable, but it creates a security nightmare for Secret Service Agents”, Bongino says.
