Former Mass Effect Lead Writer Returns To Bioware
He must have impressed BioWare: by the time of Knights of the Old Republic he’d invented meatbag-mocking droid HK-47, and afterwards led writing on Mass Effect 1 and 2 (and is therefore not responsible for any lingering disappointment you might be harbouring about 3’s ending).
Ever since Mass Effect 3 was launched fans of the franchise have been trying to get more information about the future of the series and the way BioWare plans to inject new ideas and new mechanics into one of the most loved gaming universes of the moment. Karpyshyn had his hands in Baldur’s Gate II, Neverwinter Nights, and both Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and The Old Republic.
He has just finished work on Chaos Unleashed, the last in his own series of adventure novels Chaos Reborn.
“Working at BioWare was a challenging but very rewarding job, and it’s good to be back as part of the team”, Karpyshyn wrote in his personal blog. “For those who don’t know, I spent over a decade with BioWare working on many award winning and fan-beloved games”.
It seems. he is ready for more though, as the writer has returned to Bioware.
Mass Effect Andromeda will also be breaking new ground with the fact that it’s going to be BioWare’s largest game to date.
Commander Shepard and his crew will no longer be at the center of the experience, which will focus more on the exploration of the new Andromeda galaxy and the weird aliens that gamers will meet and interact with.
He also clarified that he is not working on anything new or unannounced, rather focusing entirely on The Old Republic.
Karpyshyn announced in 2012 that he had “retired” from the game industryand that his parting was “completely amicable and 100 per cent my decision”.
