Man sings to 93-year-old dying wife; Hospice deems her well enough to
Like a bittersweet scene straight out of “The Notebook”, a video has surfaced on social media of a 92-year-old man singing a love song to his dying wife in her hospital room.
Their song? “You’ll Never Know”, originally recorded by Rosemary Clooney and Harry James.
Erin, who has since shared the video online, wrote in a Facebook comment: “I was lucky enough to capture this precious, heart-melting moment between the two of them”.
‘She is 93, he is 92, and they have been married for 73 years! I was so happy that I’d captured this moment for my family.
Erin’s grandparents renewed their vows after 50 years of marriage, and sang the song together for the whole family.
At the beginning of the video, Laura is heard uttering a line from the ballad – “A million times or more” – before Howard takes over and serenades her.
Ms Solari wrote: “Laura (Grandma) is at a hospice facility making peace with her final days”.
The couple’s granddaughter said Laura is now ‘too weak to sing, ‘ but said that didn’t stop her from saying the song’s lyrics to her husband.
“Grandpa can not stand on his own, but he immediately pulled his wheelchair close to her bed ready to make it happen”.
She also has mascular degeneration, a condition that has deteriorated her eyesight and left her unable to see anything but light and shadows. “Grandpa, on the other hand, has lost most of his hearing, so you’ll notice us repeating things for him since Grandma is to weak to raise her voice”.
But the internet has worked its magic.
The video has gone viral, and according to Erin, the outpouring of love and support lifted everyone’s sprits, including Laura’s.
“As of this posting, my attractive Grandma Laura Virginia is still with us resting peacefully at home”.
