Taran Killam Will Play Donald Trump in ‘SNL’ Season 41
As Donald Trump’s presidential campaign (surprisingly) gets higher and higher in regards to approval ratings, much talk has been had about who will play the Republican frontrunner when Saturday Night Live premieres Season 41.
Deadline initially broke the news soon after McKinnon’s admission, and NBC subsequently confirmed the fact with the press. SNL returns October 3 with host and musical guest Miley Cyrus. Deadline indicates that several cast members auditioned for the role, but Killam nailed it. Killam will have to outdo Darrell Hammond’s impression of Trump, featured in the below video.
Instead, Killam – a skilled impressionist in his own right who’s already taken on political figures like Paul Ryan, Marco Rubio and Ted Cruz on the show – has reportedly nabbed the coveted part.
Perpetual SNL MVP Kate McKinnon will play Hillary herself, as she has since taking the role over from fellow cast member Vanessa Bayer in early 2015.
The 33-year-old Killam joined “SNL” in 2010 has done a host of celebrity send-ups, such as Piers Morgan, Eminem and Matthew McConaughey. He also attended its 40th anniversary event back in February.
