Barcelona 4-1 Levante: Higlights, Goals From Messi, Neymar, Bartra Lift Barca
Luis Enrique’s side have not only been dominant at home in recent matches, but they’ve also kept five clean sheets in their last six games.
Barcelona have scored at least 4 goals in their last 4 matches against Levante in all competitions.
Victor Casadesus, who had entered the match in the 63rd minute, added a score in the 66th minute for Levante when he collected the ball in the box on a cross, and after Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen failed to punch away a lob.
Barcelona beat Levante 5-0 in the corresponding fixture last season with Luis Suarez scoring a stunning overhead kick (video below).
Until the game opened up, the Valencian squad had a great first half, holding Barca to a scoreless draw in the first period and playing excellent defense.
The Argentina global first missed a penalty, wildly blasting it over the bar, but eventually got his second of the evening in the 90th minute with a calm finish. “Then he scores two goals and gives an assist”.
With versatile youngster Rafinha injured, and Andres Iniesta and Luis Suarez rested, Barca started with an attacking lineup containing just Sergio Busquets and Ivan Rakitic as conventional midfielders.
There were also a couple of scares for the hosts, who found themselves caught on the break on two separate occasions, but they were grateful for the wayward finishing of Levante forward Nabil Ghilas and midfielder Verza.
Gumbau was impressed that despite the recent rash of injuries, the team is fully prepared to play with them players they have and everyone is on the same page. Ter Stegen has been criticised this season for errors, though he retains the confidence of his coach.
“I am pleased with the performance of Munir and Sandro”, he said. “He’s been unlucky, but is a true Barca keeper”.
The club now has two points and sits at the bottom half of the table, tied with five other clubs that have the same point tally.
The Spanish giants were hoping to register more players for the next few months until their ban from Federation Internationale de Football Association ends in January. “I heard their first half at Sevilla was spectacular”.
