Borussia Dortmund vs Bayer Leverkusen
Dortmund responded by doubling their lead through Kagawa.
Borussia Dortmund recorded a resounding 3-0 victory over visitors Bayer Leverkusen at the Signal Iduna Park to sustain their incredible start to the new Bundesliga season.
Dortmund were clearly happy to bide their time and patiently wait for gaps to open up in the Leverkusen formation – with Tuchel satisfied enough to adopt that policy in the first half of most games thus far this campaign.
Dortmund took the lead in the 19th minute when Kagawa picked out Jonas Hofmann’s run and the striker slotted the ball inside the far post after Leverkusen goalkeeper Bernd Leno made a hash of trying to clear after racing off his line.
Leverkusen should have been awarded a penalty when Mexico striker Javier Hernandez was pushed in the area by Dortmund left-back Marcel Schmelzer on 53 minutes but referee Deniz Aytekin waved on play.
Aubameyang also pointed to his close relationship with Tuchel when asked to explain his impressive early-season goal return.
“We are looking forward to the game against Wolfsburg, especially now that we are in a groove”, said Bayern sports director Matthias Sammer, with his team having also won their Champions League opener at Olympiakos last week. “We should not spare any thoughts about what our limits could be”.
“We knew we needed a top performance today and we oozed precision”, Tuchel said.
The victory lifted Cologne up to fourth while Gladbach, who lost their opening Champions League group stage match 3-0 at Seville on Tuesday, remain rooted to the foot of the table.
Thomas Mueller, Thiago, Philipp Lahm and Xabi Alonso were all left on the bench at the start of the Darmstadt game with Bayern in action twice in the league this week before hosting Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League next week. They look like a much different side than last season, and are winning games easily.
Alexander Esswein and Paul Verhaegh scored the goals, both of which came in a two-minute spell in the first-half.
Bremen were reduced to ten men five minutes into injury time when midfielder Philipp Bargfrede was sent off for fouling Ingolstsadt’s U.S. worldwide Alfredo Morales.
