‘Doctor Who’ Star Leaving the Show
Soon after Coleman’s announcement, the BBC released its own statement confirming what has been rumored for the last few days and that series 9 will be her last on board the Tardis. “Hopefully people will love it”.
As “Doctor Who” season nine makes its premiere tonight, Jenna Coleman has confirmed to BBC that she will be leaving the show for good. I think it’s because I still see Peter and Matt all the time.
Saying goodbye to the show she joined in 2012, first paired opposite Matt Smith’s Doctor, was – understandably – a bit of tearful occasion for the actress.
She revealed that she worked closely with “Doctor Who” show runner, writer and producer Steven Moffat to ensure her departure from the show would be a smooth transition.
Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman on what season 9 means for the Doctor and ClaraCOLEMAN: They’ve become adrenaline junkies. “I’ve filmed my last scenes”, adding that her final episode will air “at some point this season”.
While Coleman did not share further information about the new episodes, she hoped for an impressive story to unfold.
After all, Missy was just recently killed off “Doctor Who” only to return to the series. Coleman, who has also appeared in Emmerdale for the network, will star as a young Queen Victoria in their major new drama series Victoria.
Jenna Coleman is very “emotional” about leaving “Doctor Who” but admits it has been “in the works for a long time”. Obviously we’re not going to give away any details. Especially when you have two similar minds without the person to say, “You guys…”
Her exit isn’t unexpected, at least for the Doctor Who crew. “She is a vivid, strong, inspirational and utterly fascinating woman in British history”, Jenna said about playing Queen Victoria.
