Mom of Baby Doe held on $1M bond; no bail for boyfriend

Today, the girl’s mother and her boyfriend were in court to be arraigned on charges stemming from the death of the two-year-old.

The girl’s mother, Rachelle Bond, 40, didn’t hear a sound for awhile and went back to check – and that’s when she allegedly found McCarthy standing over Bella’s mattress on the floor.

The state Department of Children and Families said it provided services for Bella in 2012 and 2013 following neglect complaints.

Before the end of her short life, little Bella Bond was allegedly punched by her mother’s boyfriend because he thought she was possessed, a law enforcement source involved in the investigation said. He then dumped Bella’s body in a trash bag, placed it in the refrigerator, and later brought a large quantity of heroin into the home. Prosecutors said they believe McCarthy killed the toddler while Bond helped hide the murder after the fact.

McCarthy is now hospitalized at Beth Israel Hospital while Bond remains in custody in an unknown location.

Amoroso said he has been in Florida and returned to Massachusetts in August. “It only makes sense that Rachelle Bond was held captive in the house for five months, because nobody (saw her)”.

But it wasn’t until a person staying with Bella’s mother provided the crucial tip that investigators were able to identify her, the law enforcement official said.

According to the friend, the couple had locked Bella inside a closet at least twice for 30 minutes to an hour while she screamed, the prosecutor said. Before he left the courtroom he shouted at his daughter’s alleged killer, “You’re done”.

“It smells like her”, Ms Fewtrell said before the outburst, holding a stuffed animal duck, claiming it was Bella’s favourite.

Bella’s biological father, Joseph Amoroso, was also in court, seated next to INSIDE EDITION’S Matt Meagher.

The man said Bond told him she had been off drugs for the last couple of days. He said she that when she told him the circumstances of their daughter’s death, “She was very emotional, honest through the whole things, and I believe her”.

She moved to her daughter, but she knew she was dead. I had many pictures of her. I had spoken to her on the phone.

Horrified, the friend texted Mr McCarthy: “Tell me this isn’t true”, he wrote. “That’s it”.

Attorneys for Bond and McCarthy have said little on the case. He said he was questioned Friday and has not been charged in the case.

Amoroso told the Boston Herald that he and Bond connected in a tent at Occupy Boston and broke up after he discovered she had been arrested for prostitution.

“We allege that McCarthy caused Bella’s death, that he did so intentionally, that he and Bond took specific steps to keep Bella’s death a secret and to avoid prosecution”, Conley said.
