N. Carolina man charged with trying to drown 3 children
A man from Raleigh, North Carolina, is in police custody after he threw his three children in a Durham lake on Sunday night and later called 911.
Alan Lassiter, 29, is in jail under a $2.25 million bond. He is charged with attempted murder.
An off-duty Durham County sheriff’s deputy had pulled two children – a 3-year-old girl and a 5-year-old girl – out of the lake.
Authorities performed CPR on the girls until EMS arrived. A third child, who police said ran to a nearby business, was found unharmed and taken to police headquarters. The 3-year-old is in critical condition and the 5-year-old is stable. “When somebody asks for help, really help them, OK?”
The children were taken to the hospital, but there is no word on their conditions.
Police have not said why Lassiter tried to drown his children, but Lassiter told the 911 operator that child protective services was to blame.
A teen was shot to death early Sunday morning in the 1500 block of Braxton Street, Durham police reported. In the 911 call, Lassiter said, “I just killed… both of my daughters”. Nobody helped me’. The seven-year-old boy is with relatives, according to police. Officials from Durham police held a press conference at around 11:15 a.m. on Monday, in which they revealed more information regarding the incident.
“It’s very stressful for responders”. We really feel for them’.
