Texans name Ryan Mallett starting quarterback
Hoyer was benched after committing two turnovers in a Week 1 loss to Kansas City.
His interception in the second half led to a touchdown for the Panthers on the first play afterward when Jonathan Joseph was beaten in one on one coverage, as he was several times throughout the game. Mallett got hurt in his second game, and Fitzpatrick became the starter again. He went over the goal line and almost landed on his feet, but was hit by Jared Crick and stumbled a bit before beginning his celebration.
As first reported by NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport, the Texans are inserting Ryan Mallett into their starting lineup on Sunday against the Panthers. It’s like a Jeopardy! clue where the response is “Who are a bunch of people who will never get a good table at Del Frisco’s?”
But as this team meanders through the 2015 season, there’s an interesting question that at least needs to be examined.
The Panthers say they are prepared for both quarterbacks – the strong-armed Mallett and the more mobile Hoyer. And when Hoyer was crowned during training camp there was a strong suspicion that he might not last.
And thus begins the Ryan Mallett Era.
The problem with Mallett is that he is great at one thing and craps the skid-mark crusted bed in every other facet of the game.
“I wasn’t angry; I was upset because of the work I put in I should have been named the starter”, Mallett said of Hoyer initially getting the job.
It’s possible, of course, that Mallett surprises us. The Packers lost their No1 wide receiver, Jordy Nelson, in preseason, while Seattle’s Legion of Boom continues to do without its most important player, Kam Chancellor, who has thus far refused to buckle in his contract holdout.
The respect for Foster and Co. running the ball will keep defenses from constantly loading pressure on Houston’s quarterbacks, and with the QBs no longer needing to throw an absurd amount of times, the Texans’ pass-completion rate will go up.
Cincinnati Bengals cornerback Adam “Pacman” Jones was fined $35,000 by the National Football League for his personal foul against Raiders receiver Amari Cooper during their opener on Sunday. “He was decisive, had some energy, showed good leadership”, O’Brien said. I could start by noting how a Bills defense that shut down Andrew Luck will have Pro Bowl defensive tackle Marcell Dareus (he of 10 sacks last year) back from suspension. These players should have been hearing about this rule from coaches since they were five years old.
The Houston Texans are looking to invest in a quarterback for the season. “But it’s something I have to be smart about and not rush”. The first three minutes of game clock in this debacle took 15 actual minutes of our lives to play.
