Tracy Morgan’s Emmys appearance
Initial photos and appeaances by Morgan prior to the Emmys showed him walking with the assistance of medical equipment but he took to the Microsoft Theater stage on his own, which he made mention of to more applause.
Morgan, 46, pointed to scars on his forehead at one point and forcefully told reporters about his recovery, “I don’t give up”. “Last year, Jimmy Kimmel said on stage ‘I’ll see you next year, Tracy Morgan.’ Well, Jimmy”.
Of all the winners at the 67th Emmy Awards tonight (September 20), the most victorious may have been a presenter.
“I wanted to walk my wife down the aisle, with no cane”, Morgan said.
Morgan goes on to say honored he is to be there after suffering “a traumatic brain injury” that put him in a coma for eight days.
He also said how he was beginning to feel like himself again, which meant that “a lot of the women gonna get pregnant at the after party”. “My father was trapped in Vietnam at 17”. He didn’t always hit on all cylinders, but he scored big laughs with his pretaped segments, including his hilarious song-and-dance number to open the show, and a sendup of the famous “Mad Men”/Coca Cola commercial.
“Part of my therapy was seeing TV and seeing my friends and saying, One day I’ll be back”, he said. Just as it seemed he might be losing strength – his speech was somewhat halting – he cracked a joke.
“I miss you guys so much”, Morgan explained after receiving a standing ovation from Tina Fey, Kerry Washington and the entire audience. My brother was just an awesome individual. I hope that the thing that happened to me can be prevented now.
Morgan, who was a regular on “Saturday Night Live“, and NBC comedy “30 Rock“, will make a return appearance on SNL next month.
Tracy Morgan’s comeback from a career-stalling road accident is gaining momentum with the comedian and actor in talks to appear in a new Ice Cube movie.
