Seahawks Will Face Clausen Week 2
Cutler is expected to miss at least two games with a hamstring injury, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Monday.
Cutler walked to the locker room after he was stiff-armed trying to tackle Tony Jefferson on a 26-yard interception return late in the first half.
Whether the Bear at some point elect to shut Cutler down is always an option but the exact severity of his hamstring strain is not public information.
Backup quarterback Jimmy Clausen took over, completing 14 of 23 passes for 121 yards and an interception.
Palmer was 17 of 24 passing for 185 yards to improve to 15-2 in his last 17 starts.
Another starter from previous year , Bobby Massie, is eligible to return after being suspended for two weeks for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy. He could return for the week five game at Kansas City. He was also benched one game last season for performance reasons by former coach Marc Trestman. 18 games into Fuller’s career, it looks like he may be no more talented than Emery’s first draft selection as Bears GM, Shea McClellin.
“I had to catch the first one, because now they’re going to start coming like hot cakes”, Peterson said. “His pocket awareness – he had a couple of scrambles in there that I think were heads-up plays”. That put his status for next week’s game at Seattle – and beyond – in question.
Making matters tougher is that the Bears could be without top receiver Alshon Jeffery once again.
As soon as the Chicago Bears gave up a touchdown on the opening kickoff, I knew this game had the potential to get ugly quickly.
“I think everybody’s so anxious about themselves and fixing what they got to do better”, veteran receiver Eddie Royal said. They also tied a club record with 170 penalty yards. John Fox had apparently seen enough after watching Fuller allow two scores to Larry Fitzgerald coupled with a 42-yard pass interference penalty after being beat deep by speedster John Brown.
Cutler likely won’t. Speaking generally, hamstring injuries are “usually a pretty debilitating thing for a quarterback“, said Pietro Tonino, program director of Sports Medicine at Loyola University Medical Center, because it makes it harder to transfer energy from the abdominal area when throwing. Cutler was unsuccessful in his tackle attempt and Jefferson went 26 yards to the end zone. Cutler has taken plenty of heat over his time in Chicago for the perception that he does not care.
Bears fans are through giving Cutler the benefit of the doubt, and if it was Bennett’s mistake, he’s a Pro Bowler who’s done far more good for his team than bad. He is in his fourth year in the league….
