‘Lands End’ VR adventure game from Monument Valley creators arrives October 30
If you’ve followed any of our gaming coverage, you already know about Monument Valley from UsTwo.
Land’s End is a handsome looking game that Samsung Gear VR owners get to play first while the rest of the world waits for a possible release on their headsets.
The developers of the very popular (and highly recommended) game Monument Valley has announced that they will be releasing a virtual reality adventure game called Land’s End.
It was installed roughly 2.5 million times (not including the millions of pirated copies out there) as of January 2015, and brought in over $4.5 million (about £2.9 million, AU$6.3 million) for the company, according to the development studio behind the game, Ustwo.
It has a similar look and feel to Monument Valley, and gamers can explore the world at their own pace. It’s unclear which game will define the virtual reality experience, he said, but it would be wonderful if that game was Land’s End. Much of that is based on how the game is controlled – or its lack of control, if you will. In VR, you can’t even really think of it as a screen, what you are in is a place. Instead, players will use the headset to look around the game environment and navigate by fixing their gaze on items with indicators in that setting. However, the company hopes that Land’s End changes that.
Land’s End will combine the interactive storytelling ustwo is known for with what the developer claims will be “an incredible virtual reality experience that you can take anywhere”.
“We hope that it’ll be the thing that people use to show off Gear VR”, said lead designer Ken Wong, “that if people have tried the Gear VR, they’ve tried Land’s End“.
