Sisters rescued in Wyoming woods relied on faith, experience
They were found alive in a remote area about seven miles from their camp and airlifted to safety Thursday.
Erin Andrews-Sharer, 22, said she was “truly overwhelmed” by the response of the people who came to rescue the sisters.
This undated family photo released by the Teton County Sheriff’s Office shows Megan Margaret Andrews-Sharer, center, of Milwaukee; with sisters, Erin Andrews-Sharer, right, of Columbus, Ohio, and Kelsi Andrews-Sharer, of Columbus, Ohio.
Eric credits the family’s faith for guiding them through the harrowing ordeal.
They did not run into any threatening animals, which their father said was likely because the girls “make a lot of noise together”.
Iverson said they also stayed together. “As you can imagine, it was a very trying experience for all folks involved”. The sisters were found 20 minutes later. “We’re actually kind of a shy family”. They were otherwise just cold and exhausted by the time they were found.
Megan added the girls had fuel, a water filter, a tent and good sleeping bags. It’s unclear how many days they were lost.
The sisters went backpacking July 1 and were supposed to hike out July Fourth.
The details concerning why the trip didn’t end as scheduled or why they had been lost weren’t immediately available. “Other than that, we were, we had everything we could have wanted”, said Megan.
Searchers didn’t know where to look for the girls when their parents reported them overdue Tuesday, Whalen said.
Even though the sisters set out prepared, when they found themselves lost, they decided the best thing to do was to stay where they were and wait to be rescued.
A tip from a permitted guide with Horse Creek Outfitters led to the successful conclusion of Thursday’s search for three missing Wisconsin women.
The sisters had experience in the backcountry so searchers were hopeful about finding them. “I am very impressed they toughed it out last night”. “Whether it would be a week or something, I don’t know, but I think they were a long way aways from actually being posed with a serious battle with survival”.
