But the Islamist groups have got company from supposedly moderate Palestinian leaders.

The demonstrators were protesting against the PA security services’ assault on a Palestinian youth in a rally organised a couple of days ago in solidarity with Al-Aqsa Mosque.

The two-state solution – an independent Palestine existing side-by-side with Israel – has been the broad objective of negotiations since the mid-1970s and the overriding focus of U.S.-led diplomacy for the past 20 years.
