Liverpool striker Christian Benteke to have scan on injured hamstring
The Belgium worldwide was withdrawn midway through last weekend’s draw with Norwich City and is now set to miss the Capital One Cup encounter with Carlisle United at Anfield tomorrow night as the extent of the knock is ascertained.
McAllister told a press conference: “Christian is going to have an MRI scan today“.
“Danny came on and it was refreshing to see his performance”, McAllister said.
“He has been working his socks off. It’s not by fluke”. I hope that he is going to go on a run’.
Daniel Sturridge played for 63 minutes against Norwich on his return following hip surgery and McAllister acknowledged that the England striker’s workload must be managed carefully.
“The medical guys are aware of Daniel’s situation and over the season, he’s a player they’ve got to really look after. He’s a quality player, he brings something a little bit different”. “He’s taken on board the nuggets of information we’ve given him”.
McAllister also revealed that Jordan Henderson’s operation on his broken metatarsal has been a success. Manager Brendan Rodgers has no other new injury concerns but is likely to make changes for the game. McAllister, though, feels the pressure is a good thing and what is to be expected when you work at Anfield.
The Belgian striker has had a mixed start at Anfield since completing his £32.5million move from Aston Villa and was substituted at half-time for Danny Ings after the 24-year-old tweaked his hamstring.
“We’re picking from almost a full squad [for Carlisle]”.
