Inmates caught after using bed sheets to escape Louisville jail
Two inmates used bedsheets to escape a Kentucky correction center on Monday, NBC News reported.
Matthew Johnson, 29, and Christopher Cornelius, 37, escaped from the Community Correctional Center around 9 p.m. Monday after being assigned to interior work detail.
According to local authorities, the inmates suspended makeshift ropes from the roof of the jail and used them to descend three-and-a-half stories to the ground.
Louisville Metro Department of Corrections spokesman Steve Durham tells WDRB.com that investigators are trying to determine if the inmates plotted their escape in advance.
Both men are now facing felony escape charges.
Cornelius is back in custody.
Cornelius was captured early Tuesday, but Johnson was still on the run, WHAS reports. Johnson was still at large as of Tuesday.
Officers are searching the area, and Corrections officials asked any residents who spots the missing inmate to call the police immediately.
