He was booked into the Dallas County Jail and charged with attempted murder. Police arrested Minter less than a mile from the church.

Minter then pulled out a handgun and started shooting, the statement said. Jackson said the woman was Minter’s girlfriend and that the shooting stemmed from a domestic situation.

Minter is accused of shooting his girlfriend, her newborn baby and the pastor of the church, the Times Journal reports. Jackson said the female casualty, age 24, was Minter’s better half and that the shooting originated from a household circumstance.

Bob Carswell said Monday the woman easily could have been killed if he and church members hadn’t wrestled the gun away from the shooter.

“A whole lot more people could have been shot”, Jackson said.

All three victims were then taken to nearby hospitals, where they are reportedly in stable condition.

The girlfriend was shot in the shoulder and the jaw, police say. Shortly afterwards, the suspect took out a pistol and shot the mother in the face, before turning the gun on the baby.

“They all began tussling with him, including the pastor with (Minter)”, Lt. Curtis Muhannad of the Selma Police Department told the Montgomery Alamba Adviser.

“It’s just shocking for a lot of people”.

Authorities also are investigating whether Minter violated a protective order, Muhannad said.
