Barbie To Make Zendaya Doll
“We are so excited to honor @Zendaya with this one-of-a-kind doll as she encourages girls to Raise Their Voices and inspires us to #BeSuper”.
Fashion Police host Giuliana Rancic came under fire following the Oscars for criticizing Zendaya‘s hair at the award show, saying, “I feel like she smells like patchouli oil and weed”.
According to Buzzfeed, the doll will mirror Zendaya’s 2015 Oscars look and will be presented to her on the 26th of September at the Barbie™ Rock ‘N Royals Concert Experience.
“When I was little, I didn’t have one that looked like me, so I couldn’t connect with her in that way…But getting to visit the Mattel offices and see Barbie’s vision for the future…it was really cool”.
The doll honours Coleman’s 2015 Oscars getup – faux dreadlocks and all – in which she took a stand and inspired individuals to be themselves. Yesterday (Sept. 19), they announced that they will be honoring the rising starlet with her very own, one-of-a-kind doll for encouraging girls to “raise their voices”.
She wrote in a post: “There is a fine line between what is amusing and disrespectful”.
Rancic went on to apologize after she was called out for her comment by Zendaya and others. “I left the office feeling it was definitely something I wanted to be a part of“, Zendaya told Yahoo Celebrity. “My wearing hair in locs on an Oscar red carpet was to showcase them in a positive light, to remind people of color that our hair is good enough”.
The Zendaya Barbie is the first of a new line of Barbie dolls that celebrates diversity and cultural pride.
