‘Anger’ as Chelsea doctor Eva Carneiro ‘leaves’ club
Chelsea doctor Eva Carneiro has left the club, over a month after manager Jose Mourinho publicly criticised her for treating Eden Hazard late in the team’s opening match of the Premier League season, a 2-2 draw with Swansea.
The Football Medical Association backs Chelsea physios Eva Carneiro and Jon Fearn.
However, it is understood that she has not been seen at the club’s training ground in Cobham and is now considering her legal position.
The FA are continuing to look into a complaint made by a member of the public that Mourinho used abusive or sexist language towards Carneiro in the now infamous incident.
Eva Carneiro has reportedly parted company with Chelsea, who are now facing an expensive legal battle.
Carneiro had her role significantly reduced in the wake of the affair. Rabbatts said she had been effectively demoted for doing her job properly. “Afraid I can not comment on internal staffing matters”, a spokesman told Reuters.
She will argue that she was twice waved onto the pitch by referee Michael Oliver to treat Hazard who also said he wanted treatment.
Carneiro was subjected to severe public criticism by Mourinho after the game as well. It is understood likely that she will launch a claim for constructive dismissal.
“Her departure raises a serious question on how players are safeguarded if their medical support is compromised”, said Rabbatts.
The issue of team doctors has been discussed by the Federation Internationale de Football Association medical committee as a result of the incident. It is the Hippocratic oath.
