Snoop Dogg Launches Weed-Based Company
“After watching where the cannabis industry is headed, I wanted to create a platform that will take this movement further by creating a destination where people could find fresh content”, Snoop Dogg said yesterday while launching the service.
At its core, Merry Jane is a lifestyle media site with cannabis at the center.
According to TechCrunch cannabis will be “at the centre” of the site which will contain editorial and video content.
At the TechCrunch Disrupt conference, Merry Jane partner Ted Chung said that this is the priority for things in the cannabis space: “Snoop has been at the forefront of this throughout his entire year.”
The rapper described it as an online venue for information, insights, news and business guidance about the marijuana world and it boasts celebrity allies including actor Seth Rogen and singer Miley Cyrus.
And that’s just the start of it. There will also be a database of dispensaries and their strains to help match pot users with what would be best for them. A promotional video was shown during the event, where Snoop shared that Merry Jane is “cannabis 2.0”. Users can search by type of cannabis, flavors, symptoms, and more, with high-res rotating imagery for every product listed.
The 43-year-old also said he hopes it will give people “an opportunity to come out of the closet and just admit they like to smoke”.
Snoop Dogg’s persona has long been synonymous with marijuana as the 43-year-old has always been open about his drug use, even before the drug became legal. The site will launch in October and will only let 420 people into the site in beta.
