GM Recalls 780,000 SUVs Over Lift Gate Concerns
General Motors has issued a recall for almost 700,000 crossovers to fix an issue with the power liftgate.
General Motors is recalling 164,933 model year 2006-2010 Hummer H3 vehicles manufactured February 5, 2005, to May 24, 2010, and 2009-2010 Hummer H3T vehicles manufactured May 21, 2008, to May 24, 2010.
The report goes on to explain that a flaw in the design of the gas struts – those pressurized gadgets that hold a liftgate in the air – allows dirt to enter the components, causing them to wear out prematurely.
The company said Friday that it has 56 reports of injuries caused by the problem.

GM will notify owners and plans to have dealers reflash the Prop Recovery System software at no cost-a far cheaper solution than replacing the supports, it must be pointed out-to better detect worn struts. The company has not yet come up with a schedule for when the recall will begin. This time, it decided a recall was needed, according to documents GM filed with NHTSA.
SUVs built from March 2012 have struts placed differently and are less susceptible to dirt particles, GM said.
