Two Dead in German Shooting Spree, Suspect Arrested
While police are investigating why the gunman attacked, they suspect he may have been motivated by personal reasons.
Shortly afterward, the gunman fatally shot a 72-year-old man riding a bicycle in the nearby town of Rammersdorf.
He also reportedly opened fire on another two individuals, but they appear to be unharmed.
Police reported that the attacker was driving a Mercedes convertible and was armed with a firearm, in an interview with N24.
Local media house Bayerischer Rundfunk (BR) reported that the dead included a cyclist as well as an 82-year-old woman.
The incident occurred in the town of Ansbach, in north Bavaria. After entering the station with a weapon, employees surrounded the man and used cable ties to restrain him.
“We can only assume this was simply a shooting spree”, Bavarian Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann said.
The man was arrested at a gas station in Bad Windsheim.
A farmer and another motorist were also threatened with a gun during the attack, police said in a statement.
Siegfried Hess, the mayor of Leutershausen, has said he was shocked by this morning’s events, according to the Süddeutsche Zeitung newspaper.
