Who isn’t happy to see Brian Williams again? Donald Trump
In February, Williams was suspended for six months without pay from NBC in February after veterans questioned the veracity of his anecdote about nearly being shot down over Iraq in 2003.
‘I believe he can earn the trust of colleagues and viewers if we give him that chance. He’ll anchor the events along with Kate Snow, Chuck Todd, Steve Kornacki, Andrea Mitchell, Kasie Hunt, and analysis will be by Williams’ predecessor at NBC, Tom Brokaw. Williams won’t have a dedicated hour on MSNBC’s schedule but will just work on afternoon programs depending on the news.
NBC News Chairman Andrew Lack said Williams is one of the best in his generation for covering live, breaking news on television.
Williams will begin his new job Tuesday at a time when, contrary to Williams’ 2012 election night pronouncement, Trump’s relevance has probably never been greater.
“I said things that were wrong”.
Izzy Povich, MSNBC’s VP of talent and development who previously was a producer for Lawrence O’Donnell, is being shifted to executive producer of MSNBC morning news coverage as part of a shake-up this week. Williams and the show had moved back in 2011 into the sprawling news gathering mecca that once housed the “Today” show. It came from a sloppy choice of words… “I think viewers will engage with good work”.
Former NBC Nightly News anchor Brian Williams led MSNBC’s coverage of Pope Francis’ visit to the U.S. Tuesday, marking his first return to an anchor desk since being dismissed from Nightly News earlier this year. “It got mixed up, it got turned around in my mind”.
A source at the network said Williams has no plans to talk about his suspension or return. ‘What has happened in the past has been identified and torn apart by me and has been fixed, has been dealt with’.
Baltimore Sun TV critic David Zurawik, however, cautioned that Williams is likely to remain the subject of social media mockery, challenging any attempt at a career rehabilitation.
One of Williams’ disputed stories involved a previous papal visit.
Williams also checked in with NBC correspondents, who reported on the massive security preparations underway for the pope’s visit, with Stephanie Gosk reporting from Manhattan, highlighting how street closures and other measures planned to coincide with the New York leg of Pope Francis’ trip could inconvenience New Yorkers also dealing with additional traffic caused by the annual meeting of the UN General Assembly. “I told stories that were wrong”, Williams said. Williams said a Secret Service agent tipped him off about where to stand in order to meet the pope.
