New book’s claims about Cameron’s student days set UK abuzz
The first instalment of the book, serialised by the Daily Mail, claims Cameron frequently smoked marijuana with university mates James Fergusson and James Delingpole.
The book claims that a pig’s head was produced by a club member and that Mr Cameron “inserted a private part of his anatomy into the animal’s mouth”.
Downing Street is now refusing to confirm or deny the suggestion, saying it “would not dignify” the claims.
FORMER Conservative Party treasurer Lord Ashcroft says his new book about David Cameron isn’t about “settling old scores”.
Many observers have noted the thematic similarity between Ashcroft’s allegation and an episode of the popular British sci-fi TV show Black Mirror in which a prime minister is blackmailed into (spoiler alert) having sex with a pig on live television.
The book is co-written by former Sunday Times political editor Isabel Oakeshott.
Pigs heads at parties during this time were apparently a common sight. The source for the story is an unnamed MP and a photograph of the incident, part of an initiation ritual, is said to exist.
The person who is said to have the pictures did not respond to the authors’ request for comment.
Of all the scandals British Prime Minister David Cameron has had to survive, this is by far the most outlandish.
But they later fell out after Cameron failed to honour a promise to offer Ashcroft a “significant job” if he came to power.
The chancellor was also asked about the story during his visit to China.
Mr Cameron deemed Lord Ashcroft a liability due to his non-dom tax status. “On any of it”, a Cameron spokesperson tells the Independent.
Liberal Democrat leader Tim Farron, who is at his party’s conference in Bournemouth, told Sky News the claims were “extraordinary claims” but dismissed them as “a bit of a sideshow”. “The critical thing in all of this is that those of us who are in politics mustn’t be hypocrites”.
And the billionaire businessman appeared to confirm this as he tweeted a response to Mr Cameron’s “doctor” jibe.
