Emmys 2015 winners include Viola Davis, Jon Hamm
Game of Thrones is an epic HBO series original series based on George R.R. Martin’s best-selling “A Song of Ice and Fire” series.
Last night also saw Amazon become a legitimate player.
The success rounded off a big night for the United States premium cable network with 43 wins, more than any other channel.
The programme won six awards in total. Regina King (of ABC’s “American Crime“) and Uzo Aduba (of Netflix’s “Orange Is the New Black”) also earned supporting trophies. It was Janney’s sixth Emmy; she won five times before for “The West Wing”.
Emmy voters favoured heat, prestige and sentimental sendoffs on Sunday as an eclectic list of winners defied many expectations. Davis was all smiles at the red carpet as she showcased her Emmy thanks to the role she played in the drama series, How To Get Away With Murder. Longtime Palisades resident Bill Murray won for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited Series for his role in “Olive Kitteridge“, which was the night’s big victor for Outstanding Limited Series.

Yes, Parks and Recreation’s final season was shut out, but Amy Poehler didn’t care.
Fellow nominee Taraji P. Henson (“Empire”) was teary-eyed and rose to her feet to applaud the win. It will go down as the show’s only Emmy acting win now that the show is over.
Shows filmed locally also had some lohud luck at the Emmys. Comedy Central’s “Inside Amy Schumer” was another victor for variety sketch series in the first year that sketch comedies were separated from talk-variety series.
Hamm – whose portrayal of seductive, mysterious ad man Don Draper on retro-cool “Mad Men” had won him rave reviews and transformed his career – finally struck gold on his eighth nomination for the role. It was a bit sad that he had to wait so long, but at least he won’t end up like Steve Carell, who never won for The Office.
“There’s been a bad mistake clearly”, said Hamm, who clambered onto the stage rather than walking up the stairs.
