West Ham end Man City’s winning streak with 2-1 PL triumph
West Ham did the unthinkable on Saturday night, ousting the Premier League leaders Manchester City.
City boss Manuel Pellegrini had been trying to calm talk of City strolling to the title after five wins in which they had scored 11 goals and conceded none. And Leicester has the second-highest points tally after a rapid transformation from last season’s relegation-battling outfit.
“Obviously we didn’t start well with the two goals against us but they were nearly the only two chances they got”.
That being said though, the 24-year-old was also tired of the threat that Dick Advocaat’s side will pose.
“You need not only to work, but you have no chance if you are not sprinting in the last minute of the game“. However the Blues will most likely start with more experienced faces, including Martin Demichelis and Fernando Reges.
West Ham then doubled their lead from a corner when Diafra Sakho scrambled home after 31 minutes; albeit in a slightly controversial manner as replays showed Aleksandar Kolarov had managed to prevent the ball from going out for a corner. He hasn’t yet been able to get a consistent run in any of the teams that he has been sent to, but West Ham seems to be a good fit for him.
City playmaker David Silva didn’t play after feeling stiffness in his calf during the warm-up, meaning Jesus Navas moved into the starting lineup but produced an underwhelming display. The Citizens won their opening five matches but have lost back-to-back games this week, creating worries and concerns for the Etihad dugout.
However, City were at least able to call upon striker Sergio Aguero once again after injury, while the visitors were also boosted by the return from suspension of goalkeeper Adrian.
“It’s different, with the greatest respect to Arsenal and Liverpool”.
Many are now questioning whether the Hammers should look to upgrade their targets for the season, but Bilic refused to be drawn on the possibility of a Champions League charge. “We know that this team are risky at set pieces and they scored one goal in a set piece. I’m so proud of everyone and everything connected with this great club”. He was a player at Hajduk Split in Croatia in the early 90s, when fighting f lared throughout the Balkans and Croatia asserted its independence.
“It is a surprise to us as well that we have beaten Liverpool, Arsenal and Man City”, said the 47-year-old Croatian.
“There are going to be ups and downs, we are not Real Madrid, but it is looking very good now”.
