National Football League 2015 News, Rumors: Saints QB Brees Could Miss ‘Several Games’
After Sunday’s embarrassing 26-19 loss to Jameis Winston and the Buccaneers, the Saints have dropped six consecutive games at the Superdome for the first time since 1980.
Brees has not missed a start because of injury since joining New Orleans in 2006. The Saints have simply lacked the explosiveness they showed last season when Jimmy Graham and Kenny Stills were on the roster. He had surgery to fix a torn labrum following the 2005 season, his last with the San Diego Chargers. The Saints have started their season 0-2 with a win needed in Week 3 to avoid hitting the panic button, but they are at risk of being without their quarterback following a rotator cuff injury suffered in the home opener. McCown has only thrown one snap in his two-plus years with the Saints – on an ill-fated fake field-goal attempt in 2013. There’s no telling who McCown will lean on in the passing game, and teams will likely stack the box against Mark Ingram, C.J. Spiller and Khiry Robinson.
Winston and his grandmother are close, but physical limitations had prevented her from attending any of her grandson’s games while he attended Florida State.
For instance, fans have to be concerned about the health of Brees, who when healthy is among the best quarterbacks to have ever played in the NFL.
Trailing 23-13 in the early stages of the fourth quarter, the New Orleans Saints had two big chances to take their first lead of the day against the visiting Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Brees’ shoulder appeared to be bothered after taking a hit in the first half, and he said it affected a few of his throws down the field after the game.
Head coach Sean Payton said Monday it was too early to tell if Brees would be able to play against Carolina this weekend. Khiry Robinson bolted down for a 14-yard gain, then Brees found recently promoted practice squad receiver Willie Snead wide open for a 16-yard touchdown. Any time that he is in charge, you know that you have to be ready. He’s gonna be smart about it as well. “But I think we’ll have a better idea come Wednesday”, Payton said via ESPN.
I predicted that both teams would miss the playoffs this season, but Tampa Bay’s upside is much higher now than the Houston’s due exclusively to Winston.
Once upon a time, Browner was part of that Super Bowl winning Seattle team two years ago, and again with the New England Patriots in 2014, so he brings that championship demeanor to the table as well.
“We need to find our rhythm offensively”, Brees said. Mortensen said renowned surgeon Dr. James Andrews will take a look at the MRI for a second opinion.
