The fantasy series “Game of Thrones” received 24 nominations for Emmy Awards and took the record for the most number of wins for a series in a single year, taking home 12 Emmy awards. The show’s star, Jon Hamm, finally took home an Emmy as best actor in a drama last night – and it was the first Emmy ever won by a member of the show’s cast.
The show’s Peter Dinklage won a best supporting actor award.
Frances McDormand kept things succinct when she scored outstanding lead actress in a limited series or a film for her performance in the title role of Olive Kitteridge. Bradley Whitford walked away with the accolades for Guest Actor in a Comedy Series for Transparent, which registered another win – for Jill Soloway in Directing for a Comedy.
The 67 Annual Emmys Awards saw glamorous red carpet looks, a hilarious host in Andy Samberg and the best and brightest in the television industry gather together. In addition, Simon Blackwell, Armando Iannucci and Tony Roche won the Emmy for outstanding writing for a comedy series for the “Election Night” episode of “Veep“. The outstanding supporting actress in a drama went to Uzo Aduba for Orange is the New Black.
Ben Mendelsohn is the only Australian in the running for a major award, nominated for best supporting actor for the drama “Bloodline”.
Veep and Game of Thrones were heavy favorites in each of the Comedy and Drama categories, and they definitely cleaned up! “You cannot win an Emmy for roles that are simply not there”.

This year’s “Emmy Awards” have drawn the show’s smallest audience on record, with just under 12-million people bothering to tune in.
But while the pre-awards talk had revolved around streaming services such as Netflix and Amazon, it was cable channel HBO that swept the board, with shows like Veep, Game of Thrones and Olive Kitteridge performing well.
The comedy win for Louis-Dreyfus, 54, was her fourth in a row for lead actress.
