Bay City Rollers reunite
The Scottish group sold 120 million records and were renowned for their tartan outfits.
Although McKeown has been performing as “Bay City Rollers Starring Les McKeown”, it appears that just one date has been confirmed so far for the reunion with Wood and Longmuir – December 20 at Glasgow’s Barrowland.
At a press conference in Glasgow with family & fans in attendance, frontman McKeown stated: “I’m feeling great, I’m feeling fabulous”.
“Slowly but surely we began to gravitate towards each other again”.
The Edinburgh pop sensations who first topped the charts 40 years ago, have also recorded an album of new material and a single called Boomerang.
“We’re quite happy to get on with and the door’s always open if Eric wants to come and join us, which could happen sooner rather than later”, McKeown said, according to the Irish Times. Stuart Wood is also returning but Derek Longmuir has been a cardiology nurse for 28 years and is not interested in rejoining the band.
“But it’s not something you can’t get over, especially when there’s huge amounts of money involved!”
Stuart added that the Bay City Rollers were “bigger than One Direction”.
“When we look at the reality, we say to ourselves jokingly that we’re doing it for the money but deep down we’re doing it for the fans, the glory of Scotland and the glory of the tartan”.
They conquered the United Kingdom , US, Australia and Japan but music journalist Caroline Sullivan told the BBC that by late 1977 their popularity had waned.
The new members will add their parts to the songs in the coming weeks, with John McLaughlin as producer. In 2007, six members of the Bay City Rollers launched a lawsuit accusing Arista Records of failing to pay millions of dollars in royalties.
“From there Les contacted me and we started talking and it transpired that we went into the studio and started writing and talking to the others”.
