No. 17 Ole Miss Scores 73 Points, Routs Fresno State
Records are made to be broken. The Rebels are No. 5 in total offense, as well.
Ole Miss: QB Chad Kelly.
Fresno State had 316 yards of total offense Saturday.
While Kelly was almost ideal , his backups were not.
“Chad Kelly is the starter”.
His direct counterpart at Ole Miss, defensive backs coach Jason Jones, echoed similar praise for the Fresno State receiving corps as well. Chad certainly played well. “But I like Ryan [Buchanan] and DeVante [Kincade] also”.
Ole Miss built a 35-14 lead in the first half on a 14-yard touchdown pass to Cody Core and 16-, 50- and 44-yard passes to Quincy Adeboyejo – all from Kelly. Kincade was 6 of 7 for 55 yards and a touchdown. However, taking a play from the past if the Rebels have an explosive score then they tend to let the guard down as some seasons have show with that. “And I’m proud of that”. The former East Mississippi quarterback has only solidified that feeling heading into next Saturday’s clash at No. 2 Alabama. He also ran for a 20-yard touchdown. You could argue that the tempo was really good for most of the year. Adeboyejo finished the game with five catches for a career-high 120 yards and three scores. The Bulldogs had just two offensive touchdowns, but for the second straight week, Freeze wasn’t thrilled with that side of the ball. “He just puts some touch on it, and he hits those guys in stride”.
This week we take on the Fresno St Bulldogs from the sunshine state and they are looking to dim our light. “They have a ton of talent and are coached very well”. “But somewhere in there we kind of lost our edge and the focus it takes to be an elite football team. We didn’t do a good job in either case”.
The Rebel defense is going to have a tough time stopping Rosen’s assault, but give UNLV credit for its play last week at Northern Illinois, despite losing 38-30. And they tackled better than they did in the opener when Freeze had them down for 17 missed stops.
“I thought we did well, there were some things that I thought we could have done better,” Kelly said.
The Rebels’ first real challenge comes next Saturday night at No. 2 Alabama.
Laquon Treadwell will continue to improve as he continues to recover. He added that the Rebels never looked ahead during the past week. He loves to play the game. “I could have had better moves on the field”.
In fact, our potential to be great is probably more probable this season than ones in the past. A week after 10 players scored at least one touchdown, the Rebels had eight get into the end zone. It was Elston’s second-consecutive game with a pick-six.
Fifth year Senior Linebacker C.J. Under Woodson’s tutelage, Smith made 93 tackles as a senior, to go along with seven pass breakups and one interception. The offensive line – granted, against weak competition – looks like a capable unit, even with All-American left tackle sitting on the sidelines for what I can only presume is typically stupid and haughty NCAA bullshit. I know most fans were in awe with the video game score as it was called against UT Martin but that is far from a guarantee we can make it through the long haul or let our guard down.
