“Real” Barbies Get Periods! Would You Buy This Doll For Your Daughter?
“I feel Lammily’s “Period Party” can introduce kids to menstruation in a very fun and disarming way, and give parents a very useful tool”, Lamm said in an email sent to Mic.
Lammily dolls, otherwise known as “Normal Barbies”, have been on the market since November 2014, offering a less anatomically freakish alternative to Mattel’s perky double-D model.
“We’re also working on a male version – that’s the next big thing – and also some other accessories that go along the “real” theme that I think kids will have fun playing with”, Lamm says. Her pads are brightly colored with fun prints that could possibly make human women excited about their periods.
With this doll’s new “Period Party” kit, Lamm is hoping to inspire the women of the future to understand and embrace their bodies’ natural processes from an early age.
To help parents talk to their daughters about periods, the doll will come with an educational pamphlet, undies for the doll, a period-tracking calendar, and 18 reusable pad and liner stickers. And now, thanks to a new “Period Party” expansion pack, she’ll even teach your child about menstruation!
Lammily made her debut previous year complete with a sticker pack that featured pimples, moles, cellulite and scars that can be put on the doll.
Lamm is aiming to get rid of the stigma often attached to menstruation. That’s certainly true – I’ve heard plenty of guys asking each other if they “need a tampon” or whether they “started their period” to imply they’re not “manly” enough. “You’ll get eggs in your belly, just like Easter”, raps the mother in the video, while the father grimaces like a serial killer.
