The Moto X Play Blows Away Its Competition

The Moto X Style is, judging by your comments on Ausdroid, one of the most hotly anticipated and widely discussed handsets of 2015. The Moto X pays a slim price for the bigger battery, pushing the center of the back case out by 5/32 of an inch while keeping the edges at about the same thickness as the iPhone 6s Plus.

Thankfully, the Moto X Play has just the right display output to renew our faith in FullHD screens. The colours on this screen do not pop out as much as on the AMOLED screen that Samsung phones have. And it can last two days with fairly intensive use. However, heavy usage does take a toll on the phone and by the time the day’s done, you’re left with two to three per cent charge. It comes with stock Android 5.1.1 Lollipop out-of-the-box and the experience is lag free and neat. Once your prompt is set, you can ask your Moto X to do any number of things, from calling a contact, posting to social media, setting alarms, and you can even tell it to take a selfie. There’s also considerably less bloat or unwanted apps. Motorola has also added the TurboPower feature, which juices up the battery faster. For example four Moto X key features – the Assist, Actions, Voice and Display – are placed under one single Moto app. If you configure the phone to provide access to the notification’s content, you can read it with a touch and open it with a swipe up. Motorola has been exuberant enough to offer such a great device is a very competent price but they could have done better by using few other features like the wireless charging or even the NFC chip.

The Moto X Play isn’t a standout performer, but it is one of the most consistent options in this price band. These co-processors ensure that the Moto X Play is always on and listening. However, if you are just playing games, it can run pretty smooth.

Processor: The Moto X is powered by an eight-core Snapdragon 808 clocked at 1.8 GHz with an Andreno 320 GPU. These are standard mid-range specifications, nothing fancy, but nothing underwhelming as well.

It looks like Motorola wasn’t much satisfied with its previous devices in the affordable range. If you have security on your phone, like a PIN, Moto Display still works, and you have complete control over how much information is displayed. It does the basics right, heck it can handle mildly demanding tasks as well (with slight hiccups) but what if you want to go that extra mile? I like it even more than the G4, and that is a device that is slightly smaller. However, the display of the phone is not the top notch in terms of quality.

The lower front grille serves as the speaker vent. Apart from that you also get the best of the software in the device including the native apps. Certainly in our offices, it’s generated a lot of discussion too, and we’ve finally got our hands on the X Style to take for a spin. The device supports 4G LTE on both SIMs. Where the Nexus 6 has a 13-MP rear camera and a 2-MP front camera, the Moto X Pure Edition has a 21-MP rear camera and a 5-MP front camera.
